Replace sliding door hardware

When replacing the lift slide rollers or the lift slide lock, the entire system must be replaced. The new lock has a different transmission (ball) than the old lift slide lock (hole).

The trolleys do not fit into the new system. The old series GU 935, GU 936, GU 953 will be replaced by the new series GU 934 and GU 937.

A well-functioning lift sliding door is essential for the comfort and safety of your home. When completely replacing the lift sliding door hardware, both the locks and the wheels are renewed. In this blog, we will guide you step by step through this process.

Step 1 – Replace sliding door lift lock

When replacing the sliding door hardware, the door height and the backset play an important role in choosing the right sliding door lock.

Door size of the sliding door lock

The backset is the distance from the front of the faceplate to the center of the cylinder. This is crucial when choosing a suitable lock. For the brand GU, there are locks with the following backsets:

37.5 millimeter: Choose the GU 934 lock.
27.5 millimeter: Choose the GU 937 lock.

Note: The old series GU 935, GU 936 and GU 953 are being replaced by the new GU 934 and GU 937.

Step 2 – Replace sliding door wheels

When replacing the lift wheels, you must take the rebate height into account. This is the groove at the bottom of the door where the running trucks are mounted. The rebate height can be:

45 millimeter: Choose the GU 937 Wheels.
57 millimeter: Choose the GU 934 Wheels.

Step 3a – Replace locking pins

The closing cam ensures a good fit of the door to the frame. Closing cams are often replaced in combination with GU locks and GU trolleys when the current cams are worn out.

Are the locking pins still in good condition? Then they can be reused when replacing the wheels and the lift lock. For worn locking pins, it is advisable to order new ones.

Step 3b – Replace sliding door handle

Common problems with the sliding door handle include wear on the pin. When the handle is worn out, we recommend installing a new one to ensure optimal operation.

Step 4 – Replace sliding door seals

When completely replacing the sliding door hardware, it is also a good time to renew the seals of the sliding patio door. This contributes to better insulation and a longer lifespan of your sliding patio door.
